REPORTS TO: Chief Engineer/Director of Engineering & Security

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: The Engineering Manager supervises the implementation of all property and equipment preventive maintenance and repairs, monitors life safety systems and utilities and assist in the administration of the division in compliance with all corporate/brand standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to protect assets, guests and employees. Supervise engineering employees and the day-to-day operations.  


RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Assist in managing building assets including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical systems.
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
  • Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Responsible for repairing or maintaining buildings, rooms, fixtures, or equipment.
  • Install drywall, doors and fixtures.
  • Keep all equipment and work space in safe and clean condition.
  • Monitor the hotel's preventative maintenance program for all aspects of the hotel.
  • Assist in effectively planning, scheduling and evaluating preventative maintenance programs.
  • Conduct room inspections and identify repair needs.
  • Ensures all employees have the proper supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
  • Serves as the on-site Fire Safety Director (FSD) when required.
  • Assists with management of the Hotel's workplace safety initiatives.
  • Performs any other job related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; relevant trade certification preferred.
  • Prior maintenance experience in a supervisory capacity preferred but not required.
  • Willingness and ability to take a hands-on approach in the daily maintenance/engineering operations.
  • Fire Safety Director certification preferred. Ability to complete training and obtain Fire Safety Director certification within one year of employment required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Prior experience with building maintenance systems and processes required.
  • Ability to supervise and manage the work of others.
  • Ability to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, nights, and long hours when required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prior relevant experience required. Fire Safety Director certification preferred. Ability to complete training and obtain Fire Safety Director certification within one year of employment required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally with other business departments, guests, and vendors. Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism.

MATH and LOGICAL SKILLS: Requires mathematical development sufficient to be able to:  Deal with system of real numbers; algebraic solution of equations and probability and statistical inference.  Apply fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion. Ability to determine time, place and sequence of operations or action to be taken on the basis of analysis of data; executing determination and/or reporting on events. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or telephone. The employee is required to use body members, hand tools, and/or special devices to work, move, or carry objects or materials. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires walking, standing and/or sitting; and to a significant degree, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing.
